NHL free agency officially opened this week, and while the Rangers rebuilt much of their squad and the Devils inked Ondrej Palat, the Islanders have been shut out so far.
Not a great start in season one for new head coach Lane Lambert, who takes over for the fired Barry Trotz, and for anxious Islanders fans hoping for a move to get their team back on track – but on Thursday afternoon, Isles co-owner Jon Ledecky gave Newsday’s Jamie Stuart a four-word vote of confidence.
“In Lou we trust,” Ledecky told Stuart. "People really quickly forget that Lou Lamoriello won the GM of the Year twice in a row and has won four Stanley Cups. If I could bet on one person to bring another Stanley Cup to Long Island, it's Lou Lamoriello."
Ledecky was in Floral Park with Sparky, the Isles’ mascot, and reps from Ford and the Islanders Children’s Foundation on Thursday, surprising Marine Corps veteran Dennis Burgos with a new truck as part of a Foundation endeavor.
He did so on the second straight day the Isles did not ink any new players – and in fact missed out on big target Johnny Gaudreau, who signed with Columbus – but Ledecky believes in his GM.
"He has a plan. He has a strategy,” Ledecky said of Lamoriello. "He keeps his cards very close to his vest, which is really important when you are trying to build a Stanley Cup winner."
