Aaron Rodgers picked the Jets on Wednesday, revealing that his intention is to play for New York in the upcoming season, shunning retirement for at least another year.
For Sal Licata, it marked the best day in team history since the last legendary Jets quarterback led the team to its only Super Bowl.
“Aside from the Jets winning Super Bowl III, this is the greatest day in franchise history,” Sal said.
Jerry Recco countered with the Brett Favre hype potentially being equal to the current Rodgers hype, but Sal is still going with Wednesday as the superior day, and over others.
“I don’t think it was as big. I think Rodgers is better,” Sal said. “[Bill] Parcells coming here, another huge one. There have been big moments…This is different. maybe because of the way they are built right now.”
Rodgers isn’t a Jet yet, as a trade still has to be worked out, but if it indeed happens, Sal says Gang Green will be right up there with the best in the AFC, maybe just behind the top two contenders.
“I think you have to always favor the Chiefs and Bengals,” Sal said. “I think the Jets are right there with everybody else, including the Bills.”
