The Jets are in need of a proven quarterback with the loss of Aaron Rodgers, and Matthew Stafford’s name has been brought up as a potential trade candidate.
According to reports, the Jets checked in on Stafford when Rodgers’ NFL future was up in the air during the offseason. Could Gang Green go back to that well and give the Rams another call?
“Matthew Stafford of course has had his injuries, but just a couple of years ago, he led a very talented Rams team to a Super Bowl,” Gio said. “If he is in any way available, and the Jets can make that happen, then they have to.”
The only issue: is doesn’t feel like something the Jets could make happen.
“The cap situation has to be damn near impossible, because Aaron Rodgers, they don’t get any cap relief,” Gio said.
“You can manipulate money any which way you want…when I look at his salary cap this year, the Rams have a $106 million dead cap number,” Boomer added. “They’re not gonna pay for him. Are the Rams gonna hold on to some of the money? There’s not an out for him until 2026. Matthew Stafford has $130 million guaranteed…I don’t know how you can fit that in the salary cap.”
