Aaron Rodgers will be the centerpiece of the most hyped Jets season in recent memory, and Boomer believes it can very well become a historic one for Gang Green’s new quarterback.
“You got a quarterback that has a major chip on his shoulder, you have an offensive coordinator who has to have a major chip on his shoulder,” Boomer said, referencing Rodgers and Nathaniel Hackett (at about the 33:00 mark in the clip below). “I’m thinking, if Aaron Rodgers stays healthy, he’s gonna have 50 touchdown passes this season, minimum.
“He may set the touchdown pass record this year. I’m telling you.”
That passing record is still held by Peyton Manning, who threw 55 touchdown passes with the Broncos in 2013. Tom Brady (2007) and Patrick Mahomes (2018) are the only other quarterbacks to ever reach 50 touchdown passes in a season, but Boomer believes they might have some company soon in Rodgers, who threw a career-high 48 touchdown passes in 2020.
“Just because of the way he left Green Bay, the fact that Hackett got fired in Denver and couldn’t handle Russell Wilson. Think about these two guys coming together,” Boomer said. “And look at all these wide receivers and tight ends that he’s got.”
