Boomer has been concerned with Zach Wilson’s lack of awareness on the field for much of the season, and nothing he saw on Sunday against the Giants changed that assessment.
“The Jets have a huge problem at quarterback,” Boomer said. “Again, 3rd-and-1, Breece Hall is wide open, and Zach Wilson throws it at his feet.
“There are a couple times where he just completely loses, in real time, loses the down clock. He’s not even aware of it. It’s remarkable to me.”
Boomer noted the biggest play of the game, a deep completion to Allen Lazard to set up the game-tying field goal, shouldn’t have happened, as the center, not the official, spotted the ball after the completion, and that the clock should have ran out and been another frustrating lack of clock management by Wilson in what was the most important play of the afternoon.
“This is the same thing that happened in Denver,” Boomer said. “You cannot throw the ball, after you have broken the pocket and run around, and then throw the ball against the grain…hand the ball to the official, have him spot it, and then snap the ball and spike it. It almost happened again!
“The awareness, or lack thereof, from Zach Wilson, is mind-boggling.”
