The turf at MetLife Stadium has been under the microscope for years due to injuries and consistent player criticism, leading to a new surface being installed before the start of this season.
After Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson called the turf “garbage” earlier this season, and especially after multiple injuries were suffered during Sunday’s Jets/Giants game, the turf was called into question once again.
Tiki ripped the quality of the surface on Monday’s Evan and Tiki show, and on Tuesday, Boomer questioned the turf in the Meadowlands.
“A couple times, Morestead put the ball inside the 10-yard line,” Boomer said of Gang Green’s punter. “He had a great game, but the ball is not supposed to hit the ground and stick there on that particular surface.
“The Jets ended up losing three players yesterday. Two offensive linemen…I just wonder, I really wonder about the turf field. I wonder what’s going on over there.”
The Jets lost two offensive lineman and a defensive tackle to injuries on Sunday, while the Giants lost Tyrod Taylor to a ribs injury. It led to fans ripping the stadium turf on social media, and Boomer says the noise is becoming too loud to ignore.
“Guys like Garrett Wilson are complaining. When you start looking at it, over and over again, guys are getting hurt on this field,” Boomer said. “They’re not getting hurt somewhere else. The Jets are having a hard time keeping people healthy.
“I know for a fact, in those buildings over there, I know with the Jets…there is a real issue with the playing surface. The players have it, the coaches have it…there’s something going on.”
