Gio is worried that the presence of Aaron Rodgers means the coaching staff is coming back for the Jets next season, and Boomer says that thought process illustrates a problem within the organization.
“Now you know why the Packers wanted to get rid of him. This is ridiculous,” Boomer said. “It’s one thing if he’s playing and they have 11 wins. That’s a completely different story. He’s not playing.
“This is why you get in trouble if you give one player, who has done nothing for you and your organization, any sort of power.”
Boomer fully understands the move to bring in Rodgers this offseason, as the Jets seemed like they were a good quarterback away from competing in the AFC last year, but he believes the future Hall of Famer now seems to have too much power in an organization that he has only played four snaps with.
“It’s one thing ‘OK, we want to gonna pay you, we appreciate you taking less money, we’ll bring in a couple players you’re familiar with, we’ll bring in the offensive coordinator that you won MVPs with, all of that, we’ll try to do that for you,’” Boomer said. “But once he’s injured and out of the picture, then it comes back to the general manager having to put his foot down and saying ‘This is what we need to do.’
“I’d like to hear what the owner is saying here. The owner is the one who is going to make the decision as to who is coming back and how much they’re gonna be listening to a quarterback who has basically done nothing for him.”
