Mekhi Becton made waves in the wrong way once again, bashing the Jets coaching in an interview with Newsday, where he blamed the coaches changing his position as to why he needed season-ending knee surgery last year.
Becton, who said coaches dismissed his knee pain and ignored the fact that he’d be putting pressure on his right knee due to shifting from left to right tackle, also tweeted, and quickly deleted, an angry message of “I…am…a…left…tackle!” earlier this month.
BT says Becton doesn’t have nearly enough career credibility to be causing the Jets these kind of headaches, and if they haven’t stopped by summer, it’s time to cut ties.
“He's done nothing except to have tantalizing flashes of great play, laced with injury after injury, either overweight injury, then injury, that overweight or a byproduct of both,” BT said. “It's really been a, been a colossal fail. His tenure as a New York Jet has been a complete bust. There's no other way to put it.
“So if I was Mekhi Becton, I'd be a little more humble and I think I'd be a little more in tune with reading the room and just kind of slide in the side door and then listen, maybe you start cracking skulls and you start abusing people.”
The Jets declined Becton’s fifth-year option, suggesting that they too may not be sure if they will continue with the former first-round pick down the road, but BT says the end to Becton’s Jets tenure should come even quicker if his current venting continues.
“You want to verbally flex a little bit? OK,” BT said. “This seems like…a little entitled, little brazen, a little reckless. And that's the last thing the Jets need.
“I'm gonna push this forward a little bit. If this attitude seeps into the middle of the camp, you gotta get rid of him.”
