Evan: Aaron Rodgers committing to Jets beyond 2024 'warmed my heart'

Evan hasn’t been high on his Jets in recent months, but Aaron Rodgers’ comments on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday left Evan’s “heart fluttering.”

By voicing his intent to play beyond next season, Rodgers gave Evan the security to believe that there is still hope for the Jets in the short term, as it gives them an answer at the quarterback position and allows the organization to prioritize building around Rodgers and aim to contend in the short term.

“Even off a torn Achilles, even at the age of 40, Aaron Rodgers is committed to us…Aaron Rodgers is going to be around for a while,” Evan said. “It warmed my heart, and it should warm all your hearts, because he committed to us. He said it’s not just next year, it’s multiple years.

“That means the game plan of ‘It’s one year, it’s an all-in year,’ no, it’s multiple years, and that’s the best thing Aaron Rodgers could have told us.”

There has been an argument about the Jets seeking their future quarterback with their likely top seven draft pick in 2024, considering Zach Wilson’s time in New York seems to be up, but Evan says that is no longer necessary. Now, that pick could be used on an offensive lineman, or a wide receiver, to build around Rodgers and go for it over the next two years.

“My answer to that is, why? The idea that they need to find their future, their future might be Aaron Rodgers,” Evan said. “If he’s their quarterback for 2-3 years, why would you use your first-round pick on a quarterback that isn’t gonna play?”
