As a die-hard fan of the Mets, Nets, and Jets, Evan is all-too familiar with the type of player he famously considers “mercenaries.”
Evan knows a mercenary when he sees one, and hearing Aaron Rodgers on Tuesday, Evan believes he could become the latest New York mercenary to ask out after not accomplishing what he set out to do at the end of an accomplished career.
“Yesterday was the first brick of Aaron Rodgers turning on us,” Evan said. “Aaron Rodgers is likely to never play a game for the New York Jets. He’s a mercenary, and when mercenaries come to a city, they come for a reason. Usually, it’s for either money or a really good chance to win. When the really good chance to win starts to go out the window, the first thing the mercenary does is quit. They leave. They say, ‘I owe them nothing, and I’m gone.’
“How did it end with James Harden? How did it end with Kevin Durant? He quit. How did it end with max Scherzer? He waived his no trade and said ‘Get me the hell out of here.’ How did it end with Justin Verlander? Ditto.”
Evan believes Rodgers will watch the Jets season go up in flames around Zach Wilson, and see teammates bark at each other on the sidelines like they did on Sunday, and see the fanbase erupt in anger at another lost season, and decide he would be better off ending his career elsewhere.
“I’m just reading the room. When this Jets season continues to go upside down and backwards, and worse than he could imagine, and the locker room is lost, you are being naïve if you think this guy has any loyalty to us,” Evan said. “He is just like James Harden, he is just like Max Scherzer, he is just like Kevin Durant, and he is just like Justin Verlander. At the first sign of adversity, what these mercenaries do, is they quit.”
