Gio still has next to no belief in Zach Wilson improving enough to make the Jets a playoff team, but for the sake of his New York football sanity, he is hoping to be proven wrong.
“Listen, I don’t think he’s gonna be good…I think this guy stinks,” Gio said. “I don’t think he’s ever gonna be good enough to get them to the postseason. However, I am rooting for him like crazy, because I want us to have a season.
“When he throws a touchdown…I am sitting there clapping and chipping and going crazy.”
Gio was hoping to have some contending New York football teams to talk about this season, but so far, both teams are proving to be massive disappointments like the Yankees and Mets were this year. Wilson becoming a decent quarterback could save the football season in the Big Apple, but Gio doesn’t see it happening.
“We are in the midst of another New York sports disaster,” Gio said. “We had terrible baseball teams. We have gotten off to terrible starts with the football teams. I wish I could be more positive about it, I wish I could find a silver lining.”
