Aaron Rodgers seems to be drawing all the craze from Jets fans after Gang Green announced the hiring of Nathaniel Hackett as their offensive coordinator, but Boomer says Jimmy Garoppolo should still be on the minds of New York fans as a viable quarterback option.
“Jimmy Garoppolo, who will be an unrestricted free agent…he knows this offense that Nathaniel Hackett is running,” Boomer said. “It’s the same offense they run in San Francisco…if that’s your fallback position, I don’t know if Jimmy Garoppolo would want to come here in a position where Zach Wilson is still here and Mike White is still here.”
Regardless of whether Garoppolo would want to come to the Jets or not, Gio would be strongly against the move.
“I hate the idea of Jimmy Garoppolo coming here,” Gio said. “I have respect for him and his winning percentage, and I know they did him dirty over there…but how about the fact that he is always injured, and on top of that, the 49ers went out of their way to sully his name, talking about how he disappears, how they can’t find him in the offseason…that’s the kind of guy you want around here?”
Gio mentioned Derek Carr’s name as a player he would rather have over Garoppolo, but now it was Boomer’s turn to explain why he is emphatically against that idea.
“He thinks of himself as a long-term starter here,” Boomer said. “If you’re keeping Zach Wilson around here, then that’s not really the case.”
