Gio has been as critical of Zach Wilson as anyone, but after watching his impressive performance on Sunday night, he believes the Jets just might be able to salvage the season with the former No. 2 pick at quarterback.
“Zach Wilson awoke. He looked like a player who figured it out,” Gio said. “It was never about skill, talent, or hard work. I do think he was putting in the work…I really think it came down to just being afraid to let it go and let it rip. And he did on Sunday night for the first time…he was doing things I didn’t think he was capable of in the NFL.”
The Jets are still 1-3 after Sunday’s loss, but with the lowly Broncos up next, Gio believes Gang Green can get back on track and keep itself in the Wild Card conversation for the season, if Wilson is going to play like he did against the Chiefs.
“This changed the season for me, for the Jets,” Gio said. “If he can do that and be that good and look that good, with the entire world looking for him to fail again…maybe the Jets can sneak in as a Wild Card.
“It gives you a season now, if he can play like that.”
