Gio: Jets will play Aaron Rodgers when he says he's ready, but it will be 'a terrible idea'

Aaron Rodgers has teased “a few weeks” or “a couple fortnights” for when he could possibly make a return from Achilles surgery, and Gio believes whenever the future Hall of Famer goes to the Jets and announces he is ready to play, they will grant him his wish.

But, Gio says that will be “a terrible idea.”

“There will come a time in the next couple of weeks, probably a month, where Aaron Rodgers is going to go to Woody Johnson to Rob Saleh, to Joe Douglas and say, ‘I'm ready to play,’ and they're going to have to make a decision,” Gio said. “They have given him everything he has wanted since he has started here, everything including bringing in all his stiff friends. He's gonna want to prove to everybody that he can do the impossible.

“He wants to prove to you that he manifested this and he could do the impossible. And he's gonna walk in there and say ‘I'm ready to go,’ and they're gonna give him the opportunity to play, and that's gonna be a terrible idea.”

Gio, fearing reinjury in a season that could very well be down the drain anyway by the time Rodgers feels he is ready to go, would rather see Rodgers take time to get fully healthy and be ready to go next season, and limiting the risk of having to be forced to watch more Zach Wilson in 2024.
