Many are already placing the “bust” label on Zach Wilson after Thursday’s nightmarish performance that resulted in his in-game benching, but Gio had a different label in mind.
“Energy vampire.”
“He sucks the life out of the team,” Gio said. “I know the defense was bad and the coaching was bad, but he at quarterback sucks the life out of everybody. There’s no energy at all.
“There’s just a different feel when he’s in the game. He’s just weird. Zach Wilson is an energy vampire. He just sucks the living and breathing atoms out of every player on that team. They can’t stand him. They don’t believe he can do it. There’s no trust, there’s no belief, and they act like it. The whole team, including the defense.”
Gio is convinced Wilson has lost the locker room and the respect of his teammates, and there’s no coming back from that.
“You feel bad putting him through the meat grinder every single day, because it’s tough…but they can’t stand him for a reason,” Gio said. “They don’t like his personality. He’s not a leader. He had to be forced into taking accountability. He’s buying these guys scooters like he’s Peyton Manning in his 10th year…and when he gets out there and plays, he gives the team absolutely no shot to win.”
