With Justin Fields now being mentioned in trade rumors, as the Bears could pivot to Bryce Young with their No. 1 draft pick this year, Boomer and Gio pondered if the Jets could go after Fields this offseason.
Gio says the Jets should be all over it.
“This is a guy who showed you that he does have that talent,” Gio said.
“There was one point in the middle of the year when he was putting up crazy numbers.
“If I’m the Jets, I’m absolutely talking to the Bears about what they’re looking for for Justin Fields. I’m not one of those guys who believe Zach Wilson is going to turn things around…if it’s not Derek Carr and it’s not Aaron Rodgers, Justin Fields is the next best option.”
Boomer wasn’t as high on the idea, mainly because he sees Gang Green going after a veteran to lead the way for a couple of years while still holding out hope that Zach Wilson could turn his career around.
“I think he’s gonna be a much better player next year than he was this year,” Boomer said. “He’s on that trajectory to be good.
“But the Jets are not going to do that. They still are holding out hope for Zach Wilson. They’re not bringing in a guy that young…I just don’t see that happening.”
