It only took one episode of Hard Knocks for Jerry to buy all in on the Jets this season.
Following Tuesday night’s premiere, Jerry is ready to grown Gang Green Super Bowl champs.
“Jets are winning the Super Bowl, folks,” Jerry said. “I watched One Jets Drive a couple nights ago, I watched Hard Knocks this morning. The Jets are winning the damn Super Bowl.
“That’s the feeling I have with this team. The defense is gonna be better. With Rodgers as the quarterback, tell me what they can’t do? What I see right now is a complete football team.”
It would be quite a leap to go from seven wins to Super Bowl champs in one season, but adding Aaron Rodgers can have that level of impact, while Jerry believes Rodgers’ close friend Nathaniel Hackett will unlock even more of the Jets offense this season.
“It’s one episode, and I get that,” Jerry said. “But I came away after one episode watching Nathaniel Hackett, wondering, ‘How the hell was that such a mess in Denver?’ he looks like a football coach, he acts like a football coach, and everything he was saying, you’d run through a wall for this guy.”
Plenty can happen between now and February, but as things stand now, Jerry can’t be much higher on the Jets in what will be their most hyped season in decades, and can only see health changing his current outlook.
“That, to me, is the only way things go sideways,” Jerry said. “You see the connectedness that they continue to talk about, becoming not only teammates but friends, staying in touch off the field and staying locked in…I’m sure it happens in a lot of locker rooms, but the Rodgers effect, there is a feeling around this team. Even during the Rex years, when I thought they were really good and had a chance, this is the first time that I feel about the Jets, since that ill-fated 1999 season…I remember going into that season thinking, ‘The Jets are going to win the Super Bowl this year.’”
