After another season with no playoffs, many are ready to move on from the current Jets regime, which is about to endure another season of double-digit losses.
C-Mac isn’t ready to blow it up, mainly because of the Aaron Rodgers aspect, which he says is enough of a reason to keep things status quo and try again next season rather than initiating yet another rebuild.
“This defense is good enough to contend,” C-Mac said. “If you can add a wide receiver, a pass catching tight end, and offensive help for sure, with Aaron Rodgers, you can break this streak of 13 consecutive years of not making the playoffs. the only way to do that is to have a comfortable Aaron Rodgers.
“I’m sorry, you cannot have the 40-year-old Aaron Rodgers step into this team next year with a new offense. I understand he’s a veteran and he’s been around the block…but the entire reason he’s here, and the entire reason you hopes he could step in right away and be successful with him is because he’s with Hackett and won two MVPs with him. You cannot divert from that plan.”
If Rodgers was okay with bringing in a new head coach, C-Mac would listen. But he doesn’t see that happening, and says the Jets need to see things through with the future Hall of Famer leading the way, even if that means running it back with the same general manager and coaching staff.
“There is no other choice,” C-Mac said. “I might not like it, but I’m going to hold my nose and proceed with the Aaron Rodgers plan because I don’t have a choice.
“If you think you’re going to hire a new regime, who you know is going to draft and develop their own quarterback, what happens? In three years, when it’s time for Sauce Gardner to get paid, who knows what this team looks like?”
