The Jets have reportedly released Tim Boyle and signed Brett Rypien off the Seahawks practice squad, according to NFL insider, Josina Anderson, which BT says is more important, and promising, than some fans might think.
By cutting ties with Boyle, a friend of Aaron Rodgers, BT says it shows the Jets’ willingness to part with Rodgers’ pals for the good of the team, so perhaps they will be willing to cut ties with members of the coaching staff without worrying about what Rodgers’ reaction will be.
“Everything Aaron Rodgers has already done or strongly weighed in on is already being undone,” BT said. “Allen Lazard was a heathy scratch two weeks ago. That was the Jets way of saying ‘You might be Rodgers’ boy, but we don’t care.’ Timmy Boyle, who was brought in here to kind of placate Aaron Rodgers, is cut.
“Dalvin Cook will be next. Billy Turner. Hardman gone. Everything they had done is being undone, which is good, because they were all awful. Which gives me a little more belief that they are far more open to moving on from [Nathaniel] Hackett, or at least not elevating him to the head coach if they do something with Saleh, just to appease Rodgers. They are changing their position.”
Sal still isn’t buying that Hackett will be gone because of this move, but he does believe it shows that the Jets are capable of making some decisions without being tied down by Rodgers’ wishes.
“This is a move that does shows you that Rodgers is not in fact calling all the shots,” Sal said. “There’s no way he would do that.”
