George Fant made his presence known filling in for Mekhi Becton at left tackle last season, and left enough of an impression to have the Jets considering keeping the offensive lineman long term.

Fant told reporters on Wednesday that he and New York have had “some conversations” about a contract extension, and while nothing has been reported to be close to a done deal, it shows how impressed the Jets were with the job he did in Becton’s place last season, after Becton suffered a knee injury in Week 1.

Fant, soon to be 30, received high praise from the Jets after the season, with head coach Robert Saleh telling reporters that Becton would have to win the starting job back from Fant. But Fant revealed Wednesday that he has had some knee trouble of his own, though it doesn’t sound serious. He told reporters he had a knee scope and is rehabbing, but fully expects to be ready for training camp.
