There was little to be anything but disgusted about after the Jets’ lifeless 30-9 loss to the Saints on Sunday, but if there was any kind of silver lining, the team may have found a stopgap to its glaring kicker problem.
Shortly after Week 13, New York signed former Bears kicker Eddy Pineiro following Alex Kessman’s disastrous NFL debut, missing two extra point attempts before head coach Robert Saleh relented and went for two after the Jets’ next touchdown. Pineiro made his first appearance for New York on Sunday and accounted for all of Gang Green’s offense, going a perfect 3-for-3 on his field goal attempts, hitting from 36, 46, and 36 again to give the Jets some much-needed stability at the kicker position, at least for now.

Kessman had previously replaced Matt Ammendola, the team’s kicker for much of the season before hitting a wall and missing three kicks in a two-game span before releasing him last week. Kessman proved to not be any better, and with the Jets desperate for any kind of kicking help, Pineiro’s boot was a welcomed sight.
After knocking through his first try of the day, which tied the game at three apiece early in the second quarter, the MetLife Stadium crowd let out its loudest roar of the afternoon, likely with a pinch of sarcasm.
But there also was likely a large sense of relief that with all the issues surrounding the Jets right now, their kicker may not need to be as much of a focus this coming week.
