Robert Saleh opened some eyes on Tuesday when he said on ESPN Radio that he would “plead the fifth” on why Zach Wilson won’t sit in favor of Trevor Siemian given his struggles over the last three years.
In reacting to those comments, C-Mac is convinced that Saleh is being directed from above to continue to play the former No. 2 overall pick.
“Do you know what the term ‘plead the fifth’ means?” C-Mac said. “It’s when you’re worried about incriminating yourself. If he gives the answer to why they won’t go to another quarterback, he’s going to incriminate himself to whoever is making him play the quarterback. It’s clear as day that’s what’s going on here.
“I don’t know if Saleh is completely against Zach Wilson…but nobody believes in Zach. The entire team doesn’t believe in Zach…the whole team doesn’t have faith in him, yet he is being forced into these games.”
Wilson has done little to elevate the offense since taking over for Aaron Rodgers in Week 1, and many have clamored for a change at quarterback. It doesn’t seem like that is going to happen, and C-Mac now believes it is because there is a directive from above.
“When he’s honestly pushed on it…he doesn’t have an answer,” C-Mac said. “Not only does he not have an answer, but he pleads the fifth, which means ‘I can’t say.’ Someone, whether it be the general manager who drafted him second overall or the owner, but someone is telling Robert Saleh to play this quarterback.”
