Robert Saleh confirmed what many Jets fans were hoping for on Wednesday morning.
The head coach told reporters that Zach Wilson has been medically cleared, and if all goes well the rest of the week, he will be the team’s starting quarterback on Sunday against the Steelers.
Wilson hasn’t played a down for Gang Green since injuring his knee in the preseason opener, and Joe Flacco has been under center since Week 1. But now, it looks like the team’s hopeful quarterback of the future will take over.
“It’s really just exciting for him to get back on the football field,” Saleh said. “It's exciting to get him back out there, but at the same time, it's not all about Zach. It's making sure we're executing on all cylinder, as we should every week.”
Wilson will face an immediate challenge of setting up behind a decimated offensive line that has now added George Fant to the IR, joining Mekhi Becton and Duane Brown.
