As the Jets move forward after another disappointing season, Joe Douglas will be tasked with hitting on another top 10 pick to help turn things around.
But no matter how the team’s first-round pick in 2024 turns out, Gio and Jerry agree that the Jets GM will forever be associated with missing on his most important draft selection, Zach Wilson at No. 2 overall.
“Whatever you've done of a general as a general manager does not mean a damn thing if you whiff on that quarterback, and the Jets whiffed on the quarterback as bad as you could,” Gio said. “And that, more than anything, is the reason they're in this situation.
“Joe Douglas is never gonna be able to get away from that. Joe Douglas and Zach Wilson are tied at the hip forever.”
Jerry says that one decision set the Jets back immensely, and has been a pattern for the franchise that has kept them shrouded in losing.
“It sets you back five years, easy,” Jerry said. “Sometimes more.
“They tried to do this quick fix which blew up in their face as well. This is why, when you're Joe Douglas, your legacy will be tied to that guy forever.”
