Jets fans woke up deflated, even after a miraculous overtime win over the Bills, as they dealt with the reality that their star quarterback was likely done for the year after lasting just four snaps into the team’s hyped season.
The alternative, another year with Zach Wilson under center, doesn’t inspire much hope in keeping Gang Green’s title aspirations alive, but Monday’s hero on defense wasn’t expressing any doubt in the team’s new starting quarterback.
“Zach is a starter on any other team,” Jordan Whitehead said after picking off Josh Allen three times on Monday night.
“He played multiple games last year and the year before. He got a lot of film out there and made a lot of great throws. He showed already that he can run the team. when that happened - Zach had been having a great camp, so we were ready.”
Wilson and the Jets will have no choice but to be ready, as Micah Parsons and the Cowboys’ potent pass rush awaits on Sunday, giving Wilson little time to get acquainted as the starter. The Jets have said they will roll with Wilson as the starter the rest of the year, but that could change depending on how Wilson looks running the offense in the coming weeks.
