Keith: Zach Wilson improving with Aaron Rodgers back with Jets

Keith has long made it clear that he doesn’t believe in Zach Wilson as an NFL quarterback, but he also acknowledges that the former No. 2 overall pick’s play has improved in recent weeks.

What has been the catalyst? The return of the Jets’ injured starting quarterback has likely helped a lot.

“I haven’t been as harsh or critical on Zach Wilson since the Kansas City game,” Keith said. “Aaron Rodgers was up in Woody’s booth, and then in Denver, I don’t think he was on the sideline. Then we have the Eagles game, and Aaron is physically there, he’s throwing on the field…he even had a headset on.

“I think Aaron Rodgers, with a headset on and a microphone, being able to communicate with your offensive coordinator, and even with Zach Wilson, helps. This is a guru. This is a mastermind. This is a quarterback in the NFL who is at the top of his class. It definitely helps.”

The Jets have raved about Rodgers’ impact on the team, even when he isn’t able to be on the field, and the future Hall of Famer developed a strong rapport with Wilson over the offseason, as seen on Hard Knocks. So, with Rodgers back on the sideline during games, Keith believes Wilson is playing with an added sense of confidence.

“They also opened up the playbook a little bit…they gave Zach Wilson less reads and more one-on-one, man coverage throws to make, and he was able to do that,” Keith said. “I think morale-wise, having one of the greatest players of all time there helps…Aaron Rodgers physically being there with a headset on, as like a coach, even being involved in the offensive game plan, has definitely helped Zach Wilson.”
