For the third year in a row, former Jets center Kevin Mawae is a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Mawae is among 15 finalists for Canton's Class of 2019. The Hall of Fame's selection committee will meet Feb. 2 in Atlanta, the site of Super Bowl LII, to select four to eight inductees. A finalist needs an 80 percent "yes" vote to be elected.

Mawae spent 16 seasons in the NFL -- eight of them (1998-2005) with the Jets. Six of his eight Pro Bowl selections and two of his three first-team All-Pro selections came while he was a member of Gang Green. The Jets went to the playoffs four times with Mawae anchoring their offensive line, including to the AFC championship game in 1998.

Mawae spent the first four seasons of his career with the Seattle Seahawks, the team that drafted him in the second round in 1994 out of LSU. He played his final four years with the Tennessee Titans.

Four other former Jets who are remembered mostly for their contributions to other franchises are also among the finalists: former Ravens safety Ed Reed, ex-Broncos safety Steve Atwater, former Patriots cornerback Ty Law and ex-Steelers guard Alan Faneca.

Reed was one of three former players selected as finalists in their first year of eligibilty. The others were ex-Chiefs and Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez and former Redskins and Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey.

The other finalists this year are Isaac Bruce, Edgerrin James, John Lynch, Richard Seymour, Tom Flores, Don Coryell, Tony Boselli and Steve Hutchinson.
