Aaron Rodgers still isn’t the new quarterback of the Jets, but he could be closer to taking that label, as the Packers have reportedly eased up on their asking price for the future Hall of Famer, according to NFL insider Mike Florio.
“The holdup had been that the Packers were adamant about getting the 13th overall pick in this year’s draft, and I think they’ve backed away from that,” Florio said on the Pat McAfee Show.
“I think they’re going to get a second-round pick from the Jets this year, a second-round pick next year, which could become a first-round pick depending on what the Jets do with Aaron Rodgers this year, and, on the back end, possibly the Jets getting something back from the Packers if he only plays one year.”
Florio isn’t sure what led to the change in asking price, but that some around the league believed Green Bay was not being realistic in what it felt should be coming from the Jets for Rodgers, who the Packers have already made it clear they are moving on from next season.
“You’re being unreasonable and you’re being irrational,” Florio said. “Unreasonable and irrational are two words I've heard from the Jets in relation to what the Packers demands were. I think something happened in Arizona that made them a little more reasonable.”
