Jets brass is just days removed from a hopeful draft weekend, but were dealt a deflating injury blow as well.
Defensive lineman Quinnen Williams will reportedly miss 8-10 weeks after breaking a small bone in his foot, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The injury will likely require surgery.
With that timeline, Williams will miss OTAs and minicamp, but should be ready in time for the start of Jets training camp this summer.
Williams, a third overall pick in 2019, has shown himself as a star in the making for New York, making 13 starts last season and logging 7.0 sacks with 32 solo tackles, a big bump from the 2.5 and 15 he logged as a rookie.
Just 23 years old, Williams found himself at the forefront of trade rumors this past offseason when star quarterbacks like Deshaun Watson and Russell Wilson reportedly expressed frustration with their current situations, making blockbuster trades possible. Williams responded to those rumors by saying he wanted to be a “Jet for life.”
Williams reportedly suffered the injury while doing on-field work at the team’s facility, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
