Quinnen Williams undergoes successful foot surgery, should be ready for training camp

Jets head coach Robert Saleh told reporters on Friday that defensive lineman Quinnen Williams underwent successful surgery to repair a broken bone in his foot, and the plan is to have Williams ready for training camp.

“From everything that I’ve gathered, his surgery went well, everything was a success, we’re expecting him back I believe for training camp,” Saleh said. “We’re excited to work with him. He’s a tremendous young man, he’s in high spirits and we’re excited to get him back.”

Williams suffered the injury during an on-field workout, but given the timing of the injury, it shouldn’t be a big blow to New York’s defense, which would have had to deal with a major void had it happened closer to the start of the season.

“It could have been worse,” Saleh said. “Those types of injuries are injuries that is something that’s eventually going to happen. So for it to happen now so they can get it fixed so he can be ready for training camp rather than it happening in training camp and now he’s missing half the season, the timing of it was good.”

Williams is expected to be a big part of Saleh’s defense this season, having logged seven sacks last year as he continues to look like the top-three pick he was back in 2019.

“You never want to see a young man get hurt, especially in the first year when you’re trying to get him to understand how we play, especially up front, which will be different for him,” Saleh said. “But the fact that he will be ready for training camp is a positive.”
