The Jets could use a veteran quarterback presence if they are set on drafting Zach Wilson with their second overall pick in the NFL Draft later this month, and that potential presence is reportedly visiting with the team on Thursday.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Brian Hoyer is set to visit Gang Green at some point Thursday, and could be a candidate to serve as Wilson’s backup, assuming New York makes the anticipated move of drafting him.
Hoyer certainly has his share of experience in the AFC East, as the 35-year old has spent a scattered six seasons with the Patriots during his 12-year-career, including last season, when he made one start and was 15-for-24 with 130 passing yards and an interception. He spent the first three years of his career in New England from 2009 to 2011.
A longtime backup, Hoyer has thrown for 52 touchdowns and 35 interceptions across his career, totaling 10,404 passing yards and a quarterback rating of 82.1.
