Sauce Gardner graced the cover of Sports Illustrated for their latest issue, but it seemingly went viral for all the wrong reasons.
The cover shows the Defensive Rookie of the Year up close, with Gardner holding up his hand, which is covered in what looks to be barbeque sauce, playing on the Jets star’s nickname.
But the picture of the cover quickly made its rounds because, well, the barbeque sauce smeared all over his hand could also be mistaken for something far more disgusting.
Regardless of the reaction, the cover was made with good intent. After all, the sauce dripping from Gardner’s fingers is from the barbeque sauce company owned by former Gang Green star Nick Mangold. Still, the choice was a questionable one given the color of the sauce and how it looks overall.
