Tiki wonders if Jets are going for biggest names, not best players: 'It's just bad team building'

With the Jets being linked to big NFL names like Aaron Rodgers, Odell Beckham Jr., and now Ezekiel Elliot, Tiki Barber wonders if Gang Green is still going about their rebuild in the right way.

Sure, Rodgers, Beckham, and Elliot are household names within the league, but they also are on the backside of their careers, with Beckham coming off a season-ending injury. Could the Jets be going after the flashiest options rather than the best ones?

“The Jets are becoming this destination because of Aaron Rodgers,” Tiki said. “You push out Elijah Moore, who we think is gonna be a really good player…you bring in Odell Beckham Jr. into the conversation, and Zeke Elliot. It just starts to feel like, ‘we’re going all in to win a championship, and we’re bringing in the biggest names that we can.’ The only reason to do that is if you believe those guys can still play. And I don’t know if they still can.

“I don’t want Zeke Elliot if I’m the Jets. But from an interest standpoint, of course. But they don’t need the interest standpoint. They need a team that can win a Super Bowl and sustain itself for the next five years. The noise I’m hearing around the Jets doesn’t sound like that. It sounds like, ‘Let’s just get the biggest names we can and hope they still have a little left.’ I think it’s just bad team building.”

New York hasn’t actually added any of these names yet, but if their interest is real, like many reports indicate, Tiki is wary that the front office may be getting caught up in previous stardom, not how they can potentially help build a sustained winner.

“I don’t know if Zeke has anything,” Tiki said. “I don’t know if Odell has anything. Hell, I don’t really know if Aaron Rodgers is gonna be up to snuff.”
