Zach Gelb: Jets are 'a clown show' and Adam Gase 'is a bozo'

Zach Gelb is admittedly a Patriots fan, and said on his CBS Sports Radio show Tuesday night that as such, he would ideally want Adam Gase to remain as the Jets’ head coach, and keep running the franchise into the ground.

But even he, at this point, had the perfect summation of the situation in New York:

“Adam Gase is a bozo as a head coach…and that’s how insignificant and irrelevant the Jets are right now: the only time we talk about the Jets now is because they are a clown show,” Gelb said. “Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus may have shut down, but the Jets are open 24/7. They are a circus, the ringmaster is Christopher Johnson, and the head clown in the circus is Adam Gase.”

That rant came just minutes after the Jets officially released Bell, and caused Gelb to wonder why the last man standing in the organization is going to be Gase.

“Le’Veon Bell gets released, Jamal Adams gets traded, they don’t bring back Robby Anderson…and the guy that’s still standing is Adam Gase, who doesn’t have a victory this year, is an incompetent coach, is a failure as a head coach, and is a disaster!” Gelb screamed. “Why are the Jets still employing Adam Gase? The only reason can be because you don’t want to win a game, and want the No. 1 pick – and keeping Gase, even though it will annoy your entire locker room, is the way to do that. A few weeks ago players went on WFAN and lambasted the practice styles; everyone’s telling you this guy stinks and is a disaster, and they’re still keeping him!”

Tanking for Trevor, or just another bad decision in a litany of them?

“The Jets just can’t ever make the right decision. Gase never should’ve been hired, and now, as he should be fired, the Jets are sitting on their thumbs as you see talent continue to talk out the door, while this bozo still has a job,” Gelb ranted. “And that’s what Adam Gase is as a head coach: he is a bozo.”

And as the clown show goes on, Gelb continued, the Jets continue to let talent on the field and in the front office pass them by.

“Gase will get fired at the end of the year, but we’ve seen Dan Quinn and Bill O’Brien lose their jobs – at least those guys had some success in this league, but what has Gase done?” Gelb asked. “The Jets hired Adam Gase when they could’ve had Matt Rhule, who has three wins five games into his career, by the way, while Gase can’t do anything. But, after the Week 1 loss, Jets owner Chris Johnson called Gase an offensive genius – what is he, trying to be a comedian? Gase got jobs in this league because Peyton Manning called him a quarterback whisperer, but we’ve heard that everywhere he goes, he develops contentious relationships with their players. That’s what he does.”

All of that said, though, Gelb noted that Bell isn’t exactly getting off scot-free here, but it’s still mostly on the Jets for fostering the insanity.

“Now, I’m not saying Bell is right – he didn’t handle the situation he right way in Pittsburgh, and he wanted out with the Jets,” Gelb said, “but the Jets keep on pushing away talent, and keep having this incompetent coach stay around. It is amazing how he still has a job; he’s ruined the quarterback, who will probably go somewhere else and succeed, and you see a guy like Robby Anderson, who was a good wide receiver, but now without Gase he’s on pace to put up 1500 yards this year! But yeah, let’s keep Gase around.”

Five down, 11 to go, and a lot more heartache in between?
