Zach Wilson spoke with Jets general manager Joe Douglas after his throwing session at BYU’s Pro Day on Friday, and he very well could have been speaking with a representative of his future team.
New York holds the second overall pick in the upcoming draft and could likely be in the market for a quarterback, assuming they decide to move on from Sam Darnold, which would make Wilson the likely choice at No. 2. For Wilson, he’d be just fine beginning his NFL career with Gang Green.
“Obviously it would be a dream come true,” Wilson said on Friday. “It was great to see those guys out here. I’ve spent some time with them on Zoom meetings and talking back and forth, but nothing more than any other team.”
Wilson has talked with other teams as well, and the 49ers have now emerged as a potential team that could covet Wilson after trading up to No. 3 on Friday afternoon, but if is indeed the Jets, the 21-year-old seems to like where the franchise is headed.
“Great staff, love those guys,” Wilson said of the Jets. “Joe Douglas is a great guy and it was good to see him out here. They’ve got a good thing going.”
Wilson was limited to throwing on Friday due to a tweaked hamstring, but said he plans on sending teams video of himself doing the drills he wasn’t able to perform once his hamstring heals. The Jets will likely watch those closely as they determine the future of their quarterback position. If it’s not Wilson, he will likely go immediately after the Jets’ second overall pick.
“I’ll be happy with whoever gives me a chance in the draft,” Wilson said.
