LISTEN: New WFAN host Keith McPherson calls in to Carton & Roberts…from Puerto Rico

If you thought Wednesday couldn't get any better for Keith McPherson, well, hours after being officially announced as WFAN's new 7 p.m. to midnight weekday host starting Nov. 22, he called into Carton & Roberts…from his honeymoon in Puerto Rico.

And Keith made it quickly clear: even though he (and Sal Licata from midnight to 5 a.m.) will be succeeding Steve Somers as the voices of the evenings and overnights, no one could ever "replace" the legendary Schmoozer, who has been with WFAN since Day 1 but celebrates his final full-time day Friday.

"Nobody is replacing Steve Somers; that's not possible," McPherson said. "I'm honored and excited to be in the role, to be able to speak on the air on New York sports and interact with callers, but I'm not replacing anybody."

Craig & Evan made the announcement of the new schedule at the top of the show, and praised McPherson as he joined the show – and likewise, he thanked those who have already reached out to congratulate him…and also Boomer, who once joked about Keith's identity on the air as part of an inside joke on the morning show.

"I'm thankful and I'm up for the challenge, and I'm thankful for everyone from WFAN who has already reached out," McPherson said. "The first time anyone mentioned me on WFAN, Boomer & Gio asked who I was and Boomer said, 'oh, he's one of the guys that hang out in the Chase vestibule.'"

Oh, and as for the first time Craig met Keith, when he was interviewing for the job? Well, Keith's interview was ahead of a Yankees-Red Sox doubleheader, so it wasn't that Mr. McPherson was underdressed for the interview…instead, he was showing his true colors.

"I ate lunch with Spike, and I didn't put on a costume to come to the office; I put on what I wore to the game," McPherson said. "You can find me at Yankee Stadium or Barclays Center, and Evan, now you and I are the Nets fans!"

And, if you needed any extra info on how hard McPherson has worked to get to where he is? The reason he's on his honeymoon now is because his nuptials this summer came at an inconvenient time for his previous gig.

"I'm on my honeymoon because after we got married, we went right to the All-Star Game in Denver," he said. "We did all the MLB and Jomboy Media stuff, and I said that when the season was over, we could go anywhere, and she wanted to come to Puerto Rico."

Keith, we'll see and hear you soon on the 1-877-337-six six six six on your FAN NEW YORK CITY!
