The NBA released its first round schedules for established matchups on Wednesday, with the Knicks tipping off their series against the Cavaliers on Saturday night.
Then, the two teams don’t take the court again until Tuesday.
For Boomer and Gio, it is the latest reflection of an unnecessarily prolonged opening series that the NBA insists on having year in and year out.
“It’s the dumbest thing ever,” Gio said. “Think about games one and two. Game one is Saturday, and Tuesday is game two. We say this every year with the NBA first round. It is way too spread out, you get no feel for the series, and they just continue to do the same schedule every year.
“Think about that. The Knicks have to play Saturday in Cleveland and just sit there for three days.”
With many expecting a long series between the Knicks and Cavaliers, the two teams could still be playing each other more than two weeks after the series begins, which Boomer agrees is way too long.
“If this thing goes seven games - this thing is starting on April 15 - game seven would be on April 30,” Boomer said. “Fifteen days to play seven games?
“The NBA fan, just like the NHL fan, wants back-to-back games…I want to be all in. I want hockey and basketball all the time.”
