Boomer remembers sitting in The Garden last season, during one of many frustrating losses from a seemingly lifeless Rangers team, and could tell that change was coming to the franchise.
"I could tell by Jim Dolan's body language, he was ticked off," Boomer said on Thursday's show. "He was pissed with what he was watching on the ice. I knew something was gonna happen…I didn't necessarily know that they were gonna clean house entirely…he wiped everybody out."
Of course, after the season ended with another playoff-less effort, the Rangers let go of their head coach, general manager, and team president. Now, as Dolan watches his other MSG team stink up the place with the Knicks losing 12 of their last 15, Boomer wonders if similar change could be coming for the 'Bockers.
"If I'm Jim Dolan, and I'm sitting there watching this, watching my team collapse to the Nets, who don't have Ben Simmons, Kyrie Irving or Kevin Durant, and we blow a 28-point lead," Boomer said. "Where is Leon Rose and Scott Perry and Worldwide Wes? All these guys that are supposed to be fixing this team?"
The Knicks front office, which helped guide the team to its first playoff appearance in eight years last season, missed on some of its offseason acquisitions, as Kemba Walker has struggled badly at times, while Evan Fournier had a dreadful start to the season and is a liability on the defensive end. Once again, the franchise is left looking for a new source of hope after a year of false prophets in 2021, and Gio is convinced that many never come.
"There's no sign of life," Gio said. "Are they gonna somehow magically end up in the lottery and find that superstar that has eluded them for the better part of 30 years? Is all of a sudden that young free agent going to decide to sign with the Knicks? Because that doesn't even exist in this free agent class. Where is the sign of life for this franchise?"
