Boomer and Gio have seen the reports that the Wizards will work with Bradley Beal on a trade if it is the best move for both sides, but neither of them want the three-time All-Star in New York.
“It feels like bringing in Bradley Beal is something the Knicks would have done 5-10 years ago,” Gio said. “Just jumping at the first available star who is overpaid, to try to put them over the top, and it just blows up in their face.”
Beal, just over a week away from turning 30, will make nearly $50 million per year and hasn’t played more than 60 games in a season since the 2018-19 campaign. In addition to the injury and salary cap concerns, Boomer worries what Beal’s presence on the court would mean for Jalen Brunson’s touches.
“He’s gotta have the ball in his hands,” Boomer said. “And how much money is he making? He’s the best guy on a bad team. I understand why he would want to be traded…but for me, it doesn’t excite me.”
So, it’s unanimous. The guys don’t want the Knicks going after Beal.
“We’re not on Bradley Beal,” Gio said. “We’re passing on Bradley Beal.”
