Tierney: Julius Randle 'must go' after 'most alarming and swiftest fall from grace'

Julius Randle once again looked lost in a blowout loss to the Heat on Wednesday night, as the reigning Most Improved Player continues to trend farther away from last year’s All-Star season, rather than finding his way back.

If you ask Brandon Tierney, the Knicks need to find Randle a way out of New York in what has become a failed tenure after so much promise less than a year ago.

“Absolute most alarming and swiftest fall from grace in my lifetime for a New York athlete,” Tierney said.

Tierney couldn’t contain his disbelief that Randle, the face of the Knicks’ most memorable season in almost a decade, could go from a fan favorite to the current villain of what has been a disappointing season in such a short period of time.

“Never has somebody gone from such an uplifting, unifying, galvanizing figure, to somebody that we suddenly detest, in a sporting sense,” Tierney said.

Randle was the talk of the City last season, and coined the team’s “New York, we here” rally cry in their run to the postseason. Now, Randle has given the home fans a thumbs down, later saying it was meant to tell the booing MSG crowd to “shut the f--k up,” and has avoided speaking to reporters to the point where the Knicks were fined for not making Randle available to the media. Randle again wasn’t made available to reporters after Wednesday’s loss, and Tierney has seen enough.

After signing a $117 million extension over the offseason, Tierney says Randle’s Knicks tenure has to come to an end.

“It went from ‘what’s wrong with Randle?’ to ‘It is so toxic…so detrimental to the younger players on the roster,’” Tiernery said. “They absolutely, no questions asked, they must, and I meant must, get rid of him. He must go.”
