Charles Barkley is not a believer in the current iteration of the Knicks.
Speaking on the NBA on TNT Halftime Report during Tuesday’s Knicks/Cavaliers matchup, Barkley said it’s time for the Knicks to look themselves in the mirror and get to making moves to improve a team that he believes isn’t going anywhere as currently constructed.
“I think the Knicks need to do something,” Barkley said. “You see how this movie’s going to end. To me, the Cavaliers have a higher ceiling.
“The Knicks are like, ‘We play hard. We’re solid,” he said. “But they’re not contenders, so if I’m them, I’m like ‘Hey, we got to do something. All those draft picks we got, what are we saving them for?’ Go out and make a move because you gotta say to yourself, ‘We’re not in the conversation with Boston and Milwaukee.’”
Asked what he would do to get the Knicks in that conversation with the Celtics and Bucks, Barkley pointed to the Timberwolves star big man.
“Karl-Anthony Towns,” Barkley said. “Those two guys in Minnesota can’t play together…this team here, it’s not gonna win anything. They beat Cleveland last year, but they’re not a contender. You can’t be mediocre and stick with that.”
