Donovan Mitchell, the Knick That Never Was, had a chance to give ‘Bockers fans another dose of heartache on Tuesday night when he skied up to the rim in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter, with his Cavaliers trailing by just two.

Instead, Isaiah Hartenstein met Mitchell at the rim to block the attempt, helping secure one of New York’s best wins of the season.

For Mitchell, his explanation of the final play suggested that a lot was going on physically on his dunk attempt.

“I went up to try and dunk it, both my legs cramped, and my groin tightened up and locked up on me, so three things happened at the same time,” Mitchell said. “Just as soon as I jumped, then I tried to get the rebound, and that was that.”

Asked how he was feeling after the rejection, Mitchell simply said he was OK, though his pride may have been hurt a bit.

“I’m alright,” Mitchell said.
