Julius Randle says he is progressing well in his recovery from a separated shoulder, but still can't rule out needing season-ending surgery.
That is enough to send Gio into a panic about the prospects of this once-promising Knicks season.
"The fact that season-ending surgery is still on the table, and it came straight from the horse's mouth, is extremely alarming," Gio said. "I never thought I'd sit here and desperately want Julius Randle in the playoffs, but that's where we're at…he was really trending in a great way too."
Gio wants to see Randle in the playoffs and fully healthy to finally get a look at what he can really do in the postseason spotlight, but there is now real concern that it once again won't happen, as Randle was hampered by an ankle sprain in the playoffs last year.
"This would have been the year, too," Gio said. "Another year with Jalen Brunson, he's calming everything down, this would have been the year for him. Hopefully we'll still see him, but of course, with everything with New York sports, when you're on the precipice of something going great, something has to collapse on your head. That's what's going on."
