Gio: Knicks acting 'Yankee-esque' by not cutting ties with Julius Randle

The Knicks wrapped up preseason play with a lopsided loss to the Wizards on Wednesday night, meaning it will count the next time the team takes the court.

Julius Randle will be a part of that team that takes the floor next week, and Gio says that is a recurring problem that the Knicks have neglected to address.

"That patience has also turned into stubbornness when it comes to that player," Gio said. "I know the Julius Randle defenders are going to talk about All-NBA this, All-Star that, and double-double machine this. We all know the deal with him. He puts up good numbers, he has a temper that crushes him in big situations, and in the playoffs, he disappears.

"He's not gonna turn into that player you want him to be in one offseason."

Gio says the Knicks have known what Randle is for years, and should have moved him when they could have maximized his value. Instead, they continue to try and find more in Randle's game, which reminds him of another New York team that has trouble moving on.

"It feels Yankee-esque in the sense of when they hang onto players too long," Gio said. "And we yell and scream about them, and say 'How can you bring Josh Donaldson back for another year? How can you bring Aaron Hicks back for another year?'

"Regardless of the production, every year we say the same thing, and then forget about it in the offseason. But at the end of every year, we say the same thing: 'This guy can't be on the team next year.' Then he is, and he does the same stuff, we get annoyed, we say he can't be on the team again next year, and there he is again."
