Gio: Knicks fans should be rooting for Heat, who look most like New York's 1990s teams

The Heat, behind a strong second half, stole game two on the road on Sunday night to even the series at one apiece heading back to South Beach for games three and four.

Gio found himself celebrating Miami’s ability to once again defy the odds and grind out a victory, and believes Knicks fans should also be cheering on the eighth-seeded team that is now three wins away from a title.

“Watching the Heat win that game last night, I’m thinking, ‘This could be one of the toughest, most respected teams that I don’t root for than I’ve ever seen,’” Gio said. “Even though we’ve had a history with the heat and don’t like the Heat…there’s a lot of bad blood there, but that’s history. It really doesn’t mean much. This is the team you gotta root for.”

Not only does Gio want to be able to say that his Knicks lost to the NBA champs in the playoffs, but he also believes the 2022-23 Heat honor the 1990s Knicks teams with their toughness, a trait that Gio hasn’t seen in another club since those beloved Knicks squads.

“It benefits the Knicks. If the Heat win, you can say you lost to the eventual champion,” Gio said.

“I found myself rooting for them. I’m gonna continue rooting for them…as a Knicks fan, it’s the only thing you can do because of the way they play basketball. If you really want to honor the ‘90s Knicks, you honor them by rooting for this team that looks the most like them that I’ve ever seen since then. They look like the ‘90s Knicks.”
