A caller asked Boomer and Gio if Julius Randle could be moved to the Knicks' second unit, and Gio was all for it, but added that Tom Thibodeau would never pull that trigger.
"I would love that," Gio said. "But there's no way."
Randle, the Knicks' leading scorer, was named to the All-NBA Third Team on Wednesday night, though he hasn't been playing to that level in the postseason. Gio would want to see the offense move with more fluidity among the starting unit with Randle on the bench, but it's not something the Knicks and their coaching staff would ever consider.
"The way we feel about Julius Randle is the complete opposite of how the Knicks view him," Gio said.
"Strategically and basketball wise, I would love it. I'd love to see the Knicks get off to that fast start, move the ball, do the things they do when Julius Randle is off the court, and then bring him in. and maybe benching him gives him that extra chip on his shoulder to play well, but they're just not gonna do that. There is no way."
