Jalen Brunson on overtime: 'They kind of just kicked our a– in the last five minutes'

The Knicks were able to force overtime against the Lakers on Tuesday night, but fell to 3-5 in overtime periods this season after struggling badly from the floor in the extra five minutes of play.

Los Angeles finished the overtime shooting 6-for-8 from the floor and knocking down its sole 3-point attempt, while New York shot just 3-for-8 and missed all four of its attempts from downtown.

After the game, Jalen Brunson, 1-for-4 in overtime after leading the Knicks to a comeback late in the fourth quarter, made it clear that the effort in OT simply wasn't good enough.

"Play better defense and probably just put more points on the board, probably," Brunson said when asked what could have went different in overtime. "They kinda just kicked our ass in the last five minutes."

Brunson finished with a game-high 37 points while shooting 45 percent from the floor, and tied the game in the final minute of regulation, but the Knicks and Julius Randle couldn't get a shot off on the last possession, necessitating an overtime period where New York looked thoroughly outmatched.
