The Knicks are reportedly looking for a point guard in Thursday’s NBA Draft – but they also look like they’ll have a healthy one come training camp.
Per multiple reports, Alec Burks had foot surgery shortly after the Knicks’ season ended, but is expected to be ready for the start of the 2022-23 season.
Burks, 30, signed a three-year, $30 million deal prior to last season, and ended up as the starting point guard for a chunk of the year. He averaged 11.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in 28.6 minutes per game over 81 contests, but he has also been the subject of trade rumors this summer as the Knicks reportedly look to clear cap space.
His three-year deal actually has a $10.48 million club option for 2023-24, so it’s only guaranteed through this coming season, perhaps making him more lucrative in a trade as a potential expiring contract.
The Knicks hold the No. 11 pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft, but are reportedly looking to move up into the Top 5, perhaps to select Purdue’s Jaden Ivey.
