Gio was hoping for some excitement from the Knicks this season, but after missing out on Donovan Mitchell, he came back from vacation ranting about the state of the team on Tuesday morning.
"The Knicks have been irrelevant for the better part of the past 25 years, and I feel like we are right back there again this season," Gio said. "Bringing back essentially the same team and adding Jalen Brunson is not going to excite anybody, especially when you were so close to getting Donovan Mitchell."
Gio was giddy at the start of the offseason, with all kinds of drama swirling around the Nets while Mitchell trade rumors swirled around MSG. Instead, nothing worked out the way Gio hoped.
"This basketball season was supposed to give us Kyrie and Kevin Durant out of Brooklyn, and Donovan Mitchell in New York," Gio said. "We gotta go through another one of these basketball seasons like we did last year, having to root against the Nets because the Knicks are just a nothing team.
"Unbelievable. I thought it was all over."
Safe to say Gio was down bad about basketball in New York.
"I don't know how the hell we got here, but we are here again," Gio said.
"It's amazing they have any fans. How many times do we go into these seasons where you're looking forward to nothing??"
