Though born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Jalen Brunson attended high school in Lincolnshire, Illinois, just over 30 miles north of Chicago.

During those years, Patrick Kane was becoming royalty in Chicago during the Blackhawks dynasty of the 2010s, and now that Kane is in New York with Brunson, the Knicks point guard isn’t containing his excitement.

Brunson tweeted plenty about Kane being traded to the Rangers, then showed up to Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night wearing a Kane Blueshirts jersey, and put it back on to talk with reporters after the Knicks destroyed the Nets.

Asked if he would want to do a jersey swap with Kane, Brunson certainly wasn’t opposed.

“That would be pretty cool,” Brunson said. “But I’m happy he’s in New York.”

Kane will make his Rangers debut on Thursday night at The Garden, and with the Knicks off, you can bet Brunson will be tuned in.

“When I lived outside of Chicago, and they obviously won three in like six years,” Brunson said. “He’s just a legend. I respect him a lot. I really didn’t have a personal relationship, but there’s a lot of respect for him.”
